Hello there!
Thanks for stopping by my very sparse and noob-ish blog! Today I'm taking on two new tasks in my life, one is becoming a Vegan, and the other is blogging! So be patient with me ;-)
Well, becoming a Vegan isn't an entirely new thing, and it isn't like I'm going cold tofurkey here. I lived a lifestyle where I rarely ate red meat and only ate chicken when it was from McDonald's (is that real chicken anyway?! Who really knows?), or when I went out for dinner on special occasions. Being a Nova Scotian girl, seafood is going to be the hardest and most missed. In one way, I'm happy I live in another province now...where seafood isn't the only thing the town lives off of :-)
I've been "practicing" being a Vegan for the last few months, and it has taken me into realms of foodstuffs that I really never knew existed! Like the ingredients in some of my favourite foods, or what animals had to go through for me to eat it. Awful, and also kind of gross.
Those months were spent making small changes, like buying Vegan butter, instead of margarine. Like finding substitutes for eggs in baking recipes...little things. Now I'm ready for the full out, 100% commitment, and I generally have a fear of commitment...but this...this I'm ready for!
My health is suffering greatly, and I need a change. So after tons of research, I figure I need something strict, and hey, if some cute little farm animals get saved in the meantime... I'm all for it! I fully intend on beginning this journey as a nutritional Vegan only, but I'm quite certain that the more I research products and ingredients and where they come from along with the process of how they came to be...I'll most likely become an ethical Vegan along the way.
Today was my promise day. My promise to myself to clean out my kitchen and rid it of any stray animal products what-so-ever, and re-stock with nothing but clean, raw, organic, animal-free/friendly food, and to also learn how to prepare food for the next week or two, to make things a little more convenient. Let's face it, convenience is important! Part of the reason fast food chains are so effective.
So! I hope this blog will someday help someone decide to make the Vegan switch, for your health, for the rights of animals, or whatever your reason may be. I will write about my journey, the positives and negatives, share delicious recipes and hopefully make some like-minded friends along the way!
The future is bright and healthy.
